Yes, with specific rules. You can have any darkness on rear windows, but front side windows must allow at least 70% of light in. We offer a variety of legal Nano-Ceramic films that provide maximum heat rejection while staying compliant with CA DMV standards.
A 70% VLT (Visible Light Transmission) film is designed to be "virtually invisible" to the naked eye while providing massive technical benefits.
Aesthetics: From the outside, it looks like a factory-clear window. It won't give you that "blacked out" look, making it the perfect choice for windshields or front-side windows where you want to stay CA DMV legal while still protecting your interior.

The Short Answer: 20% is darker. The percentage number refers to how much light is allowed to pass through the film. The lower the number, the darker the tint:
20% Tint (Darker): Only 20% of outside light gets in. This is a very common "private" shade. Most SUVs and trucks come from the factory with roughly 20% tint on the rear windows (often called "Privacy Glass"). It makes it difficult for people to see inside your vehicle during the day.
35% Tint (Lighter): 35% of light passes through. This is a "medium" shade. It provides a sleek, smoked look that offers some privacy and great glare reduction without being as difficult to see out of at night as the 20%.
Pro Tip for the Customer: If you are looking for that classic "limo" look, you'd go even lower (to 5%). If you want a balanced, sporty look that doesn't attract too much unwanted attention, 35% is usually the "sweet spot."
In California, the "darkest" you can go depends on which window you are looking at:
Front Side Windows: 70% VLT (must be virtually clear).
Back & Rear Side Windows: Any darkness (you can go as dark as 5% "Limo" tint).
Windshield: Top 4 inches only (unless you have a medical waiver for a clear 70% film).
The TWT Rule of Thumb: Go as dark as you want on the back, but keep the front light to stay 100% legal in LA.
